Photosynthesis: My Writer’s Journey, Part Deux

EDM NEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] By Damen Smith-Draeko --Photosynthesis is an annual EDM music festival based here in Washington State. It’s a spiritual/psychedelic gathering of artists, vendors, mystics, laymen, fire dancers, and mavens that all come together in the spirit of putting forth the will-to-good-power. It’s not just the party or the music that so many people look forward to every year, but that feeling of a natural connection to the earth, to a softer wholeness that the fresh air, the ocean and mountains, and the history of the region presents. It does sound kinda corny and very hippie, doesn’t it? But that is what it comes down to. This is what I got from speaking with many of the guests and from interviewing many of the artists and performers. And I don’t think it’s corny at all. I think

Featured Souncloud Artist: Computer Controlled – Acid From The Northwest

EDM NEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] Computer Controlled has the honor of being one of this week's featured Soundcloud artists. So who is this guy responsible for countless of wreckin acid tracks? Computer Controlled is the main project of Seattle, WA (via the midwest) artist Larry Kleinke. He has been involved with the Rave Scene since 1991 in WI selling smart drinks with friends under the guise of Cybertonix. In 1993 he decided to start DJing and in 1995 started buying synthesizers and drum machines. Computer Controlled's base (or is that bass?) sound is heavily influenced by the old school Midwest Acid sound of DJ ESP Woody McBride and DJ Hyperactive. As well as labels like Communique', Drop Bass Network, Direct Drive, Industrial Strength, Harthouse, Contact, TRAX, etc... Also the ea...

Nianaro Makes Debut on Neuroscience Recordings

EDM NEWS, NEW RELEASES, TRANCE
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] Nianaro makes his full debut on Neuroscience Recordings. His previous releases have been on labels such as Nukleuz and Echelon, with support from DJs including Aly & Fila and M.I.K.E. We hope you agree, that he has a sound that fits right in here at Neuroscience! In the original mix of 'Exhalation' you can certainly hear where Nianaro draws his influences from. The track has a great tech-edged sound, and will work well in clubs. However, it also features some gorgeous balearic-esque melodies, giving a great sense of emotion. Gor and Oceanic make a welcomed return to the label, this time on remix duties for 'Exhalation'. Both producers have done an excellent job, completing what is a superb release package. Great work all round! [wp_ad_ca...

ALBUMS, EDM NEWS, INTERVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] By Damen Smith-Draeko -- Writing for Hammarica.com has its benefits. One of them is the opportunity to communicate with astoundingly talented and inspired people who have demonstrated a consistent drive to follow through on their passion to achieve their dreams, no matter what the odds.  One such talented and inspired (inspiring) person, is the progressive and tech house maven, Darin Epsilon. Hello, Darin. To say that you are an impressive figure would be an understatement. I am not going to reinvent the wheel and write another outstanding bio about you. Your fans and our readers can read your bio here: http://www.beatport.com/artist/darin-epsilon/31025. I want to go between those lines a bit and ask some questions a bit more off the cuff. Plea

Photosynthesis 5.0 – My Writer’s Journey

EDM NEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] By Damen Smith-Draeko -- This was the fifth in the series. I’d made the third and now this one, Photosynthesis 5.0 in Neah Bay Washington. Through opening day anxieties, incredible performances, really engaging people, and inspirational interviews with some of the most compelling and thankfully very accommodating artists I'd ever met, it all turned out to be an even more enriching experience than I would have ever dared anticipated. I love Neah Bay. I haven't been in love with a place like this since Okinawa. This was perhaps different because it's at the northern tip of my home continent. I was born in North America, so I'm thinking that there is more of a natural connection here than with the sub-tropical island in the Far East. As I stare from the beach, watching th

[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] Back in June 2010 one the world’s most celebrated DJ/producers asked EDM addicts everywhere the album-question, ‘Do You Dream?’ Fan praise, cross-genre DJ support and dance press acclaim greeted one chart-scaling, master-blasting single after another.

From that album’s day of release though, Markus Schulz had already begun imagining and conceiving the sound designs that would make up his next long-playing excursion. Now - comprising a 19-track packed collection of ear catching, floor quenching, super-seismic audio - that ‘Dream’ is about to turn into a ‘Scream’! “When you’re in the studio, deep in production mode on an album, the mind’s eye is forever picturing the reactions that tracks, and particular moments in tracks are going to generate”, says Ma

You wanna know glitch-hop? Sit down – have some “Toast.”

ALBUMS, EDM NEWS, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] By Kate O'Connell -- If you were looking for a flawless representation of “glitch-hop” this track – even more so this artist, would be a good start. Ananda Goldsmith (20) aka (DJ) Golden Toast is an up and coming producer/ DJ from Ashland, Oregon who is putting his name on the map with tracks like “Big Bug”; which are just as completely original as they are completely addicting. Somehow in “Big Bug” Golden Toast seamlessly finds a way to create a funky-groovy glitch-hop sound with a heavy bass line, infectious loops and a midtempo dance beat.  And while this track displays his technical skill and obvious original and individual sound – he covers all genres of EDM – and he covers them WELL. From mashups, to remixes, to complete originals – from dub -step

Sensation USA Is Coming!

EDM NEWS, EVENT NEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] Sensation USA will finally land in New York City, twelve years after its debut in Amsterdam, Holland. At the time, Sensation was a new concept set-up by ID&T Events. ID&T had been promoting events for about a decade. They began the company with a set of raves under the Thunderdome moniker which focused on the hardcore house- or so called Gabber scene. Towards the end of the nineties, dance music fans became a bit more mellow and therefore a concept called Innercity was launched. It was a highly successful event which ultimately ignited Tiesto's international DJ career. A TV crew recorded the event just after Tiesto had performed and he was crying out of joy in front of the TV cameras. ID&T tried to bring this indoor festival to international ci...
