New Release Review: LUKE FAIR

EDM NEWS, HOUSE, NEW RELEASES, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] Reviewed by Eversun There was once a time when the groovy sounds of disco was the norm, but as the techniques and technology used in electronic music has evolved the true disco sound has become somewhat a rarity. However there are some producers who have learned to effectively modernize the sound while still keeping true to the roots, Toronto house legend Luke Fair is one those producers. Released on Spirit soul, Gravitron offers two Originals (Gravitron, Blueshift) as well as two remixes of the title track by Silver city and the Babel Orchestra and a remix of Blueshift by Phunktastike. The original mix of Gravitron starts us off with a perfect introduction to the sounds of "Discoteca" as it is often called. Full of energy and melodic impact, and a...

The Upbeats BRING THE NOISE!

DRUM & BASS, EDM NEWS, NEW RELEASES, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] Reviewed by Eversun Diffused is the latest release from New Zealand Drum and bass duo The Upbeats, featuring 2 brand new originals (Diffused and Undertaker) and remixes of the title track from S.P.Y. and Opiuo. Being released on Noisia's Vision Recordings, you can expect to hear the dark styled drum and bass that label owners Noisia are known for. Diffused uses deep rolling sub bass and crazy percussion/Breaks patterns to bring out a tune that is absolutely full of energy. Undertaker is a full-on neuro jump up tune with a real Noisia-esque glitched out bass line. The S.P.Y. remix offers a different take on Diffused with a more straightforward approach to the drums and an epic offering of sub bass whilst still retaining the overall vibe of the ori

ALBUMS, EDM NEWS, ELECTRONICA, NEW RELEASES, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] A popular electronic music artist has decided to step behind the curtain and release his first full length album under the alias ANGRY MUFFIN. [wp_ad_camp_1] Angry Muffin, who as his former personality released music with some of the top electronic labels on the planet, says shielding himself from the public and media will force audiences to listen rather than look. The anonymous artist plans on captivating his followers through music without a public image, hearkening back to a time when glitz and a pretty face were not as important as the music itself. The album's opener You Crushed Me sets the tone with relentlessly crushing beats and a solemn Muffin voice. Poison In My Brain steps the tempo up a notch with a sparse, groovy backbeat and an ultra infectious v...

Wolfgang Gartner – Evil Lurks Review

EDM NEWS, ELECTRO HOUSE, NEW RELEASES, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] December 4th saw the release Evil lurks by Wolfgang Gartner on Ultra Music. Alongside Tom Staar,Wolfgang has captured the essence of the mythical monsters under the bed of our youth. Admittedly Wolfgang has stated on his facebook that he felt this should have been released near Halloween, Evil lurks features a darker take on the classic Gartner sound all the while retaining the funky vibes we have come to know him for. [wp_ad_camp_1] Featuring heavy hitting 128 beats, wild progressions, a beastly electrofied bassline and a sinister melody, Evil lurks delivers on all levels and is sure to fire on a dance floor. When it comes to consistency, Wolfgang has become one of the first names that comes to mind. With a Grammy nomination in 2010,eight songs in the #1 position o

[wp_ad_camp_2] By KATE O'CONNELL -- From the moment the first beat hits your chest off Pure Trance Disc One by Solarstone your pulse will start to race and you find yourself getting lost in the hypnotic melodies.   From that moment on this two disc compilation takes you on a spellbinding thrill ride with SolarStone as the Captain. [wp_ad_camp_1] Pure Trance has about the most fitting title of any new album out there.  Solarstone nailed it giving us exactly that – pure, mind blowing, hair raising, chest shaking trance.  It’s impossible not to love and get addicted to the irresistible dance beat and infectious melodies.  I challenge anyone who appreciates trance music to listen to these two C.D’s and not dance by the time the first track is over.  Aside from that, every single one of

[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] By KATE O'CONNELL -- A few weeks back after a super late night of raging, I was at home winding down, cruising YouTube for new music and decided to look up DJ Mia Moretti. I came across a video of her and another girl, an electric violinist Caitlin Moe, playing a live set together at what appeared to be some sort of wedding or out door party. The clip was of the two of them doing their version of “Digital Love” by Daft Punk. It literally blew me away. Not only were they both beautiful blondes (always a plus) and wickedly talented but they were a blast to watch. You could tell they were both having a great time, loved playing together, and have really fun spunky personalities. It made the remix that much more exciting! I think I might have replayed th

[wp_ad_camp_2] JOOP (NL) found a minute in his busy schedule for us this week to share the tracks that are to be found in his latest sets! ØRJAN NILSEN - COPPERFIELD (Original Mix) [ARMIND] If you take the title of this track than certainly we can speak of some magic. I think Ørjan thought exactly the same way when he finished this baby in the studio. Magic is a good word to describe the amount and consistency that Ørjan is keeping up the last few months on the release flow. ‘Copperfield’ cuts the raw edge of tech-house, combined with some piano and synths. A stunning break, and after this it takes you to a full-on outburst of the Nilsen sound. A very good track with a real edge to it. A peak time track that really spices up your Dj set. A must have boys and girls! 4/5 (JOOP) [

DUBSTEP, EDM NEWS, NEW RELEASES, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] So I’m just sitting here cruising FaceBook when my buddy Gary The Human (performed at my birthday party, which you can find a review of in the ‘PartyRock’ section.) sent me a link to get a FREE download of the new Rusko EP “KAPOW.” (If you haven’t heard of him Rusko is a famous producer out of England.) I immediately downloaded the tracks and started grooving in my seat. [wp_ad_camp_1] There isn’t one bad track (in my opinon) on “KAPOW” although there are some that are less interesting than others.  The EP starts out with a track called “Yeah” which is a perfect babystep from Elektro into Dubstep.  It has a catchy fun elektro hook that is more than dance radio friendly. I understand filthy – grimey – dubstep is an aqquired taste and this track is a great way to introd

[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] From the moment I heard even the first 20 seconds of “Crystallize” by Lindsey Stirling I was stunned, in love, amazed, baffled, and addicted all at the same time. I’ve listened to this song at least 20 times now and not only does it never get out but it still gives me chills!! Every single time!! Lindsey Stirling is a female violinist, musician, dancer, and composer from Utah who was a quarter finalist on the fifth season of “America’s Got Talent,” and was known as the “HipHop Violinist.” She likes to dabble in all genres of music from classical to hiphop to dubstep and more. And has worked with groups such a LMFAO and also done many soundtracks (Lord of the Rings for example). “Crystallize” is obviously her more dubstep side and the girl more then p

DUBSTEP, EDM NEWS, GLITCH HOP, HIPHOP, NEW RELEASES, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] Brad Bitt’s use of samples – hip hop influence – and glitch hop/dub sound caught my attention immediately. But it’s probably best displayed in his most recent release – “Crunk as Fuck (Trailer Trash DrumStep Mix.” This kid is the sample king. He uses them in a way that is just INSANE! And so addicting! Even though this mix is 33 minutes long I’ve listened to it at least 10 times now. With a dash of reggae here and there and some crazy dance beats, Brad Bitt blends the lines between hiphop and EDM in a way that is without denial something that needs to be acknowledged. I think most of this mix could be played on both the major dance AND hiphop stations up here in Seattle. Being able to blend so many genres in a way that is appealing to all is a rare talent, and Brad

Stephen J. Kroos – My MusiQ – Part One & Two – Review

ALBUMS, EDM NEWS, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] Stephen J. Kroos brings us “My MusiQ: Part One” and “My MusiQ : Part Two” showing the world that classic progressive house isn’t dead, and not only that but its still growing and ever changing just like the rest of the EDM genres. Both these albums have an old school house and trancey feel fused with with a spacey – galatic sounding melodic dub/glitch influence and a touch of 80’s disco-pop to finish off the “MusiQ” recipe. Stephen makes what I like to call “pretty beats;” a very melodic – beautiful sounding trance-ish track that just sounds down right, well, pretty. You can get lost in both these albums and in my opinion there’s really not one “bad” song on either Part one or Part two. And in fact I think it sounds best when played exactly how it’s

[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] By Kate O'Connell -- If you were looking for a flawless representation of “glitch-hop” this track – even more so this artist, would be a good start. Ananda Goldsmith (20) aka (DJ) Golden Toast is an up and coming producer/ DJ from Ashland, Oregon who is putting his name on the map with tracks like “Big Bug”; which are just as completely original as they are completely addicting. Somehow in “Big Bug” Golden Toast seamlessly finds a way to create a funky-groovy glitch-hop sound with a heavy bass line, infectious loops and a midtempo dance beat.  And while this track displays his technical skill and obvious original and individual sound – he covers all genres of EDM – and he covers them WELL. From mashups, to remixes, to complete originals – from dub -step

Bath Salts Make It To The EDM Dance Floors

EDM NEWS, REVIEWS
[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1] After all the face-eating weirdness of the past months, bath salts got the blame for it. Do bath salts really make you eat faces? We don't know and frankly, we don't want to try it out either. Yet, we have seen several videos of people on bath salts and their stories after the facts. Let's just keep it to the fact that bath salts don't make you look particular pretty. Whether you are the one taking the bath salts, or  fall victim to a person with the munchies. Well, long story short: ZXX & Paul Anthony decided it was time for a true Bath Salts Anthem. Thankfully their soundtrack won't make you eat faces, but it is a great punchy electro banger for the dancefloor nonetheless! http://www.beatport.com/release/bath-salts/939225 [wp_ad_camp_5] [
